Finding Colors Workshop in Biloxi, MS

TriCoast got on the road in August for the Finding Colors Workshop in Biloxi, Mississippi. It was a short 4...5...8...13 hr drive to the Hard Rock Casino where we finally roosted down for the night.

One of the best parts of a workshop is the Road Trip through different states. You never know what you get to see. And sometimes the things you see, will make you turn the car around, dodge traffic, cut off tractors, fight off crickets, just so you can get a photo next to a bear crossing sign.

For all the curious, there is a tourist info across the street. Please be advised that the bears do have the right of way. And will pose if you have a pot of honey.

Good thing we got on the right bridge...

Houma, LA. I think these guys need to work on some attractions. Maybe a carnival or circus. Like the ones with the sideshow that has bigfoot in a cage or a liger(my favoritest animal ever!!!), or the worlds tallest midget, and maybe a squirrel fish. I mean, it's not like they have a shortage of lodging...

After Houma, we crossed over to the outskirts of New Orleans. Because of the severe thunderstorm/tsunami/big rain cloud like conditions, we seeked shelter in Bourget's of the South.

Public Service Announcement. Don't drive and shoot at the same time. This will happen. Unless of course you're putting on makeup, while on the cellphone, and driving a manual shift.

After Bourget's, we headed straight to Bourbon St to meet up with a small group of photographers that were already enjoying the historical part of New Orleans.

Day two is the actual class day. The location is inside an old school house, slowly re-renovated and preserved. It's a neat location, with lots of natural lighting shooting locations. But we're not here about the natural lighting :D

Later, we headed back to the Hotel after Dinner. Everyone wanted to take a nap after full belly. Even the model...

Dianna Montoya and her method of Finding Color

Dianna is a young local photographer in the Houston Texas area. I had the pleasure to meet her and get to know her a little through a great little online forum Texas Photo Forum. Having meet many people in this amazing artform I must admit not many of them, if any, have more of a passion and drive to learn, educate themselves, ethical and all around loves this art more than Dianna. So when she purchased the Finding Color product line I was excited to see what she would do with the products. Needless to say I am loving the results.

Here Dianna used the Alstott Orange Action

On this image she used the ColorNut Sepia with a Purple tint

On this image she used "Cindy's Red" Action

Finally Dianna used TriCoast's V-Pop to give just a slight "pop" to the image

I purchased the Finding Color DVD & actions a while ago. I just wanted to say thank you. You have no idea how much that DVD's done for me. I have been fairly proficient in PS for a while, but watching the DVD really set a fire inside me. Since I've first popped it in I've come full circle. Obviously I've only still scratched the surface but the small glimpse you provided in the videos really opened a ton of doors for me and I'm quite pleased with how far I've come in just a few weeks. My methods of post processing have changed tremendously, both with things I've learned from you and NAPP as well as finding things out for myself.Anyhow, just thought I'd share that with you. And that I really appreciate how freely you share yourself with the rest of us. I think it says a lot about you as a person-- that not only are you horribly giving, but you're also extremely confident (and rightly so) because you feel you can share how you do things with even would-be competition. Rachel stated that on the flower images above the one on the left is straight out of the camera (SOOC) and the one on the right she ran one of the Finding Color Preset on the image (Blue Contrast)

The bottom three pictures: The first is SOOC, the second is after she processed it and the third is when she applied Finding Color's X-IT Baby Action on it.

One thing I love about this amazing artform and the internet is I get to meet so many amazing people. With so many directions which photography can take you I am finding the longer we have sold our Finding Color product line the more wide range of photographers I find using them.

Just wanted to also thank Mike for the incredible actionset, was amazing the quality and the ease of use. Finally watched through the whole DVD and i have to admit my knowledge of photoshop and postprocessing just took a great leap! Teaches you how to use layermask like a pro, and processing time sped up by at least 40%. Definatly recommend this to everyone. Though i'd also highly recommend getting the Actionset AND the dvd, it'll save you alot of time on trial/error as well as getting you familiar and comfortable with the actionset and the workflow.

WOW is all I can say about this ladies work, Debbie has truly not only gotten some amazing results with the Finding Color product line but even taught me some things with her amazing landscape photographs.

Debbie stated:

I am trying your actions (to see what they will do so I can envision that pic before I take it) on old pics that I have. This one litterally took me less than 30 seconds. I applied VPop and Orange Glow (as a landscape photog, I LOVE this action) and here ya go. I am so excited I wanted to share. Now if you could only do an action to get rid of smoke from a wildfire :)

Here are a couple of images with their original unprocessed copy. Both are using the same action - Orange Glow. Whatta ya think? I spent about 2 minutes per image.

Finally check out these two before and afters, all I can say on these is WOW, WOW, WOW!!

Martin of Martin Alston Photography from Bridge City Texas posted a few images from his sessions recently "This was the very first bridal I ever did about 8 months ago. I recently blew it up for a display but thought it was a bit boring compared to most of my newer stuff so I spiced it up a bit with some of Mike's actions." Clint Smith shows of how he is Finding Color...

A great photographer from Texarkana, Clint Smith who is truly gives back more than he receives as a teacher of our youth. He showed off an image with a review of the product which I have included here.

Clint's Review:

I ordered to learn how to use Layer Mask more effectively. And I am glad I did. Being able to see the demonstration really helped. I can't tell you how many books I have bought or sat in Books A Million reading trying to figure this technique out.I had kind of developed my own technique using the history brush but I never really was happy with the results. I have been playing around with the Tricoast technique and I can tell it was well worth the investment.The action set will be a great time saving tool also. Especially with the layer masking. I am excited about using this stuff on my processing I have to do this weekend.Ok now for the one bad thing. Well, it really isn't bad, but you may remember my background is in TV and video production, so these types of things really stick out to me. Most folks won't even notice this but to me the audio or voice over was really "tinny" and at times a bit over modulated. Which was a bit distracting to me. But like I said most people will probably never notice and I got past it because the information provided was what I wanted to know.So for my grade on the set as a whole - Definately and A. Nice packaging, quick delivery great customer service and full of useful tips and simplified instructions and images to follow along with!Only thing keeping this thing from and A+ and an "Instructional Emmy Award", if there were one, is the audio quality.
